Not your usual biking adventure

If you are a serious (and I do mean serious) cyclist and you are looking for an alternative biking excursion besides going down the mountain, I highly recommend ';Go Cycling Maui';. I can not stress enough, that this is not for amateurs nor for the faint of heart. My husband bikes and wanted a different experience and I found these guys. They are GREAT. They hook you up with everything you need. They do recommend that you bring your own pedals (if you have them) and bike shoes. My husband%26#39;s bike was a titanium framed bike just out of the box. They go in groups of about 7 and take different routes throughout the island. The day my husband went, they went to an area referred to as ';Up Country'; and he estimates that it was maybe around 45 miles. I didn%26#39;t think it could be done, but they kicked his behind and he loved every mile of it. He found that even if you just want to rent a bike and trek out on your own, Maui seemed to be very bike friendly. Thought I would pass this on to anyone who was interested.

Not your usual biking adventure

Thanks you so much for posting this information. I was searching the web site

for cycling information regarding a trip to

Maui in September when my husband will be

running a marathon there. Cycling is my forte and the ';downhill'; tours sounded too

tourisy and lacking the workout I crave. Did

you husband find any spinning classes while

in Maui?

Not your usual biking adventure

Was glad to be of help. As for the spinning classes, hmmm, no, we don%26#39;t know of any unless maybe some of the spas/gyms at some of the resorts would have had some. I was never able to get him interested in spinning classes because he can%26#39;t stand the idea of biking for that long and not going anywhere. (Laughing) I even offered to set him up with a tv and a refrigerator. Sorry I couldn%26#39;t be of help there. Hope you guys have a great time. Let me know if you do a trip with GoCyclingMaui. Like I said, my husband really loved it and it was definitely NOT a tourist trip. Good Luck

P.S. They have a website gocyclingmaui.com. I think you will be happy with what you read and see.

I spin at the new Powerhouse Gym in Kihei. They have new Spinners and Johnny G instructors. Classes are 6 or 6:30 am and T-W-TH at 5:30. They have day and week visitor passes. Maui Fitness Plus, also in Kihei has several spin classes a day, but it is hard to get a bike there.

Thanks for your information on the spinning

classes in Kihei. Can both gyms accomodate my SPD compatible shoes?

Honeymoon-Kihei or Kaanapali???

We are planning a honeymoon in September. Not sure which section of Maui would be better to stay in? We have condos that we are looking at Koa Lagoon and at Maui Kai/Mahana. We want to go to the Old Lahaina Luau, Road to Hana, Halekala Sunrise, Snorkeling trips, etc. We like the beach on days that we aren%26#39;t doing anything. Any thoughts on the best place to stay for our honeymoon?

(sorry if I butchered any of the names)

Honeymoon-Kihei or Kaanapali???

It really depends on what your tastes are....ka%26#39;anapali %26amp; kihei are completely different from one another. Ka%26#39;anapali is more expensive and is mostly resort hotels with the whaler%26#39;s village shopping center. Not much in the way of night life there. Although Lahaina is just right down the road. A few good places to snorkel. Black Rock is a big hit. Kihei is a little more of a ';town';. Good restaurants, better nightlife, and in my opionion, better beaches a little to the south. Wailai is right down the road the other way for more shops. And Lahaina isn%26#39;t too far of a drive either...about 20 minutes. I prefer Kihei.

Honeymoon-Kihei or Kaanapali???

Kihei was a good location fo us. La Perouse 10 minutes south, shops at Wailea 5 minutes. Haleakala and Hana are shorter drives. We would walk to the beach, watch the sunset and then bar hop along the main drag. Eveything seems pretty close to you in Kihei.

Thanks for the opinions. Do you guys have any condo complexes that you like in Kihei? We only have one condo we are looking at there and I would like to have a couple more options.

Aloha!

I prefer Kaanapali area for a honeymoon. It offers more of a resort environment. I think you will really like the Maui Kai...hard to beat those views! Enjoy.

definitely Kaanapali

Sugar beach has condos on the water...the closer in to kihei you get, the condos are across the street. We like sugar beach. The beach isn%26#39;t crowded. Mostly people walking, and it%26#39;s only a couple of minutes from ';town';. And it puts you a little closer to Lahaina. There is the Kealia condos, Sugar Beach Resort, and Kihei Sands...there are a couple after that, but the names escape me.

Try hooilohouse.com It looks like the perfect spot for a honeymoon, in my opinion.

oh my gosh the hoolio house is GORGEOUS! we would have booked that if the condos werent so cheap. Once my fiance saw what a condo would cost compared to anything else there was no turning back for him.

I prefer West Maui. We have stayed in Napili our past two trips, and it is beautiful. During that time we spent days in Kaanapali and Lahaina. On our last trip we drove down through Kehei and Wailea, and I was really happy that we stayed on the West side. Granted, there are some beautiful beaches in South Maui, but it is so dry, and we just didn%26#39;t see the tropical foliage that I think of when I think of Hawaii. On the highway down to Wailea the East side actually reminded me a lot of Arizona, minus the cactus. But it is Maui, so I am sure you will have a great time no matter where you decide to stay.

we have rented private condos at Maui Banyan in Kihei several times and not been disappointed - very reasonably priced. If your budget allows for more you should check out the Mana Kai or the Hale Pau Hana - both are beachfront, which is a rarity in Kihei.

how far from hyatt to four seasons

Can someone tellme how far it is from Hyatt to 4 seasons

how far from hyatt to four seasons

I would say that its an hour drive....maybe a bit longer.

how far from hyatt to four seasons

Though it%26#39;s only about 30 or so miles the traffic is slow through Lahiana at times and the road conditions and speed limits make it about an hours drive. If you are driving a convertible you%26#39;d hardly notice the time go by at all!

Ko Olina to Waikiki (Distance/Time)

I was wondering what the driving time is from Ko Olina to Waikiki? We will be staying at the Marriott Ko Olina Beach Club. We have children 11,8,3 and all ready know that we will be making that trek quite often. Possibly not quite as often as we think!:) Thanks in advance for your response.

Ko Olina to Waikiki (Distance/Time)

Hello ltmc,

We just returned from a stay at the JW Ko Olina %26amp; it was a 35 minute drive to Honolulu/Waikiki.

The biggest challenge is to avoid major traffic times as we heard that can be brutal. We were told not to drive between 7-9AM %26amp; to return either before 2-2:30PM or after well supper (7:30pm/8pm).

Just to let you know there is a town called Kapolei which is a 8-10 minute drive from Ko Olina that offers a few restaurants at much better prices as well as a Safeway.

Hope this helps,

Chris

Ko Olina to Waikiki (Distance/Time)

Its 27 miles of mostly freeway driving, and in theory it should take you about half an hour. However, the traffic in the H-1 Freeway corridor can be beyond belief during rush hour (it is one of Honolulu%26#39;s best kept secrets)...

And, it is SEVERE...town-bound, towards Honolulu in the AM from about 6 to 9; and, home-bound, towards the exploding suburbs of Central Oahu and Ewa (where Ko Olina is) from about 3:30 to 6:30 PM. During those periods expect the drive to take at least almost an hour and maybe as long as 1.5 hours.

Realistically, Honolulu, like any big city, is congested most of the time nowadays...too many cars and too little pavement.

Parking can be tough in Waikiki unless you are willing to pay to park in a hotel garage. The best street parking is along the Ala Wai at the ';back'; (inland or ';mauka';) side of Waikiki, or along Kalakaua Avenue in Kapiolani Park.

You really don%26#39;t need to go into Waikiki very much...the beach there is only so-so and crowded (far inferior to others on the island), and there is great shopping at Ala Moana and the Ward Centers, which have plenty of parking and are located outside the resort district.

Don%26#39;t forget to explore Downtown Honolulu with its Capitol, financial, historic and Chinatown areas...one of the world%26#39;s most beautiful, diverse, clean, safe, compact and pleasant walking towns.

Thanks for the information. I%26#39;m also wondering if there is a Jack-in-the-box near the KoOlina-maybe by the 10 minute away area? It%26#39;s a family joke and would make my Mom laugh. Thanks!!

There%26#39;s one in Kapolei on Farrington Hwy...so mayber 5 miles or so.....

Superbowl

We will be in Kauai during the Superbowl-- where would you recommend watching the game?

Superbowl

From a tape in your VCR at home that you set up to record it before you left on vacation would be my guess.

Private Honeymoon location

Hi all :)

My fiance and I have studied these boards and settled on having us and our family stay in the Kamaole Sands complex prior to our wedding in Hawaii... but we would really like to go somewhere else after we are married.

We are looking for an up to 250 price ranged private area, where we can go from August 5th through 9th. We are not much for nightlife, but would like to have a restaurant reasonably close. We will have a rental car :)

In a perfect world it would be on a nice beach, or in lush vegetation... somewhere we can lay by a pool in a more private atmosphere.

Thanks for everyone%26#39;s constant support and the wealth of knowledge you all bring to these forums!

Private Honeymoon location

You might want to look at the Ho%26#39;oilo House just outside of Lahaina, sounds like just what you are looking for!

Have fun and congratulations.

Private Honeymoon location

This place may be worth a look, I think it starts at $300 a night though:

Reviews, and some pictures we took can be found here:

tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g60629-d315540-…

We stayed for our honeymoon and loved it. Its close to Paia and Makawao. Not on a beach, but take a look at the pictures, the views can%26#39;t be beat. Cliffside setting overlooking lush vegitation, a waterfall, and the ocean.

I%26#39;m sure there%26#39;s plenty of nice romantic places out there. Good luck with your search.

Detroit to Honolulu RT $349.00 on Delta.

Kauai calls...take an interisland flight from HNL to LIH. Flight from DTW through Atlanta to Honolulu at that price might be worth the long flight to some folks.

Detroit to Honolulu RT $349.00 on Delta.

Wow. Living near Detroit Metro, I couldn%26#39;t believe the price so I checked it out on Travelocity. I got and even lower price, about $325 with taxes included and just a one hour layover in Cincinnati.

I didn%26#39;t have any plans, but at that price I%26#39;m getting some ideas...thanks for the tip.
