My boyfriend and I are hoping to squeeze in a hike up Diamond Head our last morning in Waikiki -- we need to leave for the airport for our flight to Maui by about 10:30. Would we better off taking the bus, which seems to run only about once every half hour, or grabbing a cab to Diamond Head? Does anyone recall how much a cab from the Kuhio end of Waikiki to Diamond Head is, and how easy it might be to get a cab back to the hotel once we%26#39;re done? I%26#39;m always looking for a bargain (the bus), but I%26#39;d rather pay a little extra for the peace of mind that we won%26#39;t be late getting back! Thanks...
Diamond Head transportation?
I recommend using the bus, but you want to get there just after the 6:30am opening before the sun starts to beat down. The Bus No. 58 from Ala Moana Shopping Center which will drop you off at the craters inland. Also, if you need transportation. Also, if you%26#39;re going to be in Oahu for more than a day, I know the new Go Hawaii Card includes a tour to Diamond Head Crater as well as shuttle service, so if you%26#39;re going to do some of the other things on their list it may be worth it to get the value card.

We did the same thing on a recent visit and used a cab. It happened to be during a full moon so we arrived early enough to walk to the top before daylight and were able to watch the sunrise shortly after we got there. The driver gave us his cell phone number and we called him as we were hiking back down. He arrived a few minutes after we got back down to the parking lot. We still had a little time to kill so we asked him to swing by Punchbowl were we spent a few minutes walking around. We then went back to our hotel, checked out and took the hotel shuttle to the airport. I believe the total cab fare ran us around $35-$40 but it was worth it for the convenience it provided.
i was there 2 wks ago and we took the bus from queen kapiolani, which is across the street from the zoo,and returned by limo. he just happend to be driving back from droping some people off and offered to take us back to our hotel. we were so tired after the hike so we took the offer, it cost us $8 for myself, nephew, and my daugther.
