Will be spending 10 days in Kihei in June and am renting a Jeep Wrangler for the 10 days. We will be spending a lot of time exploring the island and beaches while we are there. Since we will have a Jeep with no lockable trunk, what have people done in the past with valuables while on the beach or snorkeling. Obviously we won’t be brining anything other then the necessities, ID, Credit card or cash. Also, what about a camera and stuff like that. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Bottom line - don%26#39;t leave anything you%26#39;d cry over if you lost it. We had a jeep and had a cooler, a long-sleeved sweetshirt, two pairs of sunglasses, and a little paper bag with a musubi in it stolen at a hiking trail start. Strangely, they didn%26#39;t take the tripod. But, it happens. One pair of sunglasses was even locked in the center console. We were SOOO lucky not to have our rental snorkel stuff in the car. After that we took everything everywhere.
I feel slightly safer on the beach for some reason. Enough to leave towels and our backpack of sunscreen. If we are just swimming and playing, we keep an eye on it. But, we are snorkelers, so we bought a dry bag to put our camera, keys, wallet, etc in so we can take it in the water. Make sure you get a good one (check canoe supplies or google dry bags - amke sure it is okay for cameras), and close it properly or it will leak. Test it first BEFORE you stick you camera in it. It doesn%26#39;t hurt to also put your camera and walet in plastic bags just in case.
A cheap styrofome cooler is great because if it%26#39;s stolen it%26#39;s only $5 to replace. Plan accordenly. If you know you are just driving around and not swimming, leave the snorkel set at home. Thieft happens, but if you take precautions, it won%26#39;t ruin your vacation.

as far as a camera...if you%26#39;re taking pics in/around the water (snorkeling or waterfalls) bring one of those disposable waterproof ones for the day and leave the good camera back at your hotel room.
