To bike or not to bike?

I am really torn about whether to bike down Haleakala or not.

1.) we like biking and do it alot around home, weather permitting

2.) no way in Heck will I get up at (4am or whatever it is) on my vacation. NO sunrise is worth that to us (parents of 4 yr old and 1 yr boys)....but I see the Haleakala Bike Company has an express tour leaving at 9

3.) we have two days open and I thought we might use both for Hana. We are staying in Makawao, so it will take no time for us to get going on the Hana hwy but we are explorers and love water, so we could potentially take 2 days...or cut into one of those days for the bike down tour.

At this point, the crater isn%26#39;t a huge draw for us and we may skip it. Is that wrong? How long can it take to get down Haleakala?? Is it a ';must do';??

FWIW, our travel agent has a large credit for us that we need to use up so I would like to decide BEFORE we go and have them use some of our credit to pay for the tour...

I am not hard to please and I wasn%26#39;t pleased with a bike ride down the mountain. It left a lot to be desired. I%26#39;d skip it and do something else, to be totally honest.
