The interisland ferries seem to be on schedule for a 2007 start date.
I am looking forward to this option for travel, as opposed to flying.
How is this going to impact tourism? Do locals want this? Is this a good idea? Any comments?
Interisland Ferries (Maui, Oahu, Kaui %26amp; Hawaii) planned for...
I have a feeling in order to turn a profit the ferry will either be as expensive as a plane ride or even more costly.
I am sure people will use it though, I know I would rather see dolphins or whales than clouds.
The competition will be nice unless it puts someone out of business.
Interisland Ferries (Maui, Oahu, Kaui %26amp; Hawaii) planned for...
The fares currently posted online seem to be reasonable, with an option for a discount for advance booking. The airfares I have been pulling up for Maui-Molokai and Maui-HNL have been pretty high. Plus, the option of renting one car for the whole period, instead of shorter more expensive rentals is also appealing.
As I understand it, they%26#39;re going to be costly and nowhere near as fast as people might think, at least from Kaua%26#39;i to Oahu.
I%26#39;m VERY concerned that unwanted critters will be transported island to island - mongoose, Coquis, Bufos, snakes...
It worries me especially for Kaua%26#39;i, which hasn%26#39;t yet fallen to the above.
sounds great but I will believe it when I see it, I wonder if they can really make it work, sounds expensive to run. What would really help is if they ran some family packages, big groups get real expsensive at airline prices.

My other concern is discounts for HI residents.
There%26#39;s supposed to be a low-price interisland airline starting up - Hawai%26#39;i Air, or something like that. In theory, that would force Hawaiian and Aloha to drop prices.
Would there then be overcapacity, resulting in Chapter 11%26#39;s or whatever US bankruptcy protection is called?
Price wars are great, but someone has to lose eventually.
A lot of local people would like to have ferry service. The idea of travelling between islands and being able to take your car with you is very attractive. However we%26#39;re not holding our breath for a startup date of 2007, service was supposed to begin in 2005.
