Hello~
Just needed some advice here...we are going to be in Kona next month. We depart on a 10pm flight but we must check out of our condo by 11am... Originally I didn%26#39;t think that would be a problem, now I%26#39;m second guessing that decision to not purchase an extra night at our condo! I am unable to extend our stay at our condo so now I%26#39;m not sure what to do...
Any recommendations? Should I book an inexpesive room for that day at a hotel? Would our luggage be safe locked in our car (i%26#39;ve read bad stories about that)? Does anyone know how early can we check our bags at the airport?
Any advice would be appreciated!
Thank you!
J

It depends on what vehicle you drive and where you decide to spend the day - not to mention what airline you fly.
First thing I would do is contact your airline and ask them when you could check in. That might solve the problem.
Booking a room at a hotel probably won%26#39;t solve your problem; most have afternoon check-in times so that won%26#39;t help you much.
If you have a regular car rental, the trunk is probably as safe as anything. SUV%26#39;s and vans typically leave your luggage visable.
I would be careful in planning your last day%26#39;s activities; maybe spend the day driving for some last minute sightseeing. Maybe visit one of the Kohala resorts. Park in well-lit, secured areas. It would not be a good day to park along the highway and go for a hike.
Remember, you%26#39;ll probably need to be at the airport by 7:30 or 8pm for a 10pm flight home, so it%26#39;s not as much time as you think.
We usually end up on a red-eye home, but I%26#39;ve never had much of a concern with our luggage the last day. Our last stops are usually Wal-Mart (last minute soveneirs) and KTA (frozen guava nectar).

Aloha , usually the hotel will store your luggage for you until you are ready to leave if not the trunk is fine. It wouls be a waste of time to go to the airport and check luggage in early. Expalin your situation to your hotel they should be willing to help.
Find a beach with a public shower and keep your travel clothes in a carry-on. Take plastic bags for wet swimsuits. Spend all day at the beach, clean up and then have dinner. Don%26#39;t think you have to waste that last day. By the time you are done it will be time to go to the airport anyways.
Thanks for all the great tips. We are staying at a condo and we leave on a saturday so unfortunately we cannot leave our luggage there.
But we might just play around for the day and leave our stuff in the trunk and hope for the best!
Thanks again! :)
