My husband and I will be going to a wedding in Kihei Hawaii last week of Aug. first part of Sept. I have looked at the hotels offered on the net and my head is spinning. I think we would like a quiet smaller hotel on the water, cove or ocean etc. We are non-smoking vegetarians (but dought any hotel has veg. meals) Has anyone stayed at both the smaller hotels and the larger ones on Kihei? What was your experience? We also love children but would rather not be in a high family area. Thank you all for any insight or other information you can share for this first timer. Doris
Going to Kihei Hawaii
Doris,
We stayed at the Maui Prince in Makena, about a 10 min ride south of Kihei.
The hotel is secluded and did not have a lot of families with little kids. It seems to cater to couples and older familes. It was very quiet with the exception that we faced the lawn area and they did have a luau almost every night. This did not bother us as it started about 6 and was done by 8:30-9 pm. Most nights we missed it as we were out to dinner.
It is not a huge hotel, has about 310 rooms. We never felt crowded and the beach in front of the hotel was gorgeous.
I hope this helps. If you are looking for something right in Kihei, maybe someone with more info than I can help with that. There are a lot of nice condos for rent in Kihei if you are looking to go that route.
Going to Kihei Hawaii
We%26#39;re staying at the KOA Lagoon in Kihei. It%26#39;s a condo with reasonable rates right on the beach. Never been there before, but the reviews sound good and our travel agent said it%26#39;s a great value and a very decent place.
We stayed at the Maui Oceanside Inn (it%26#39;s a Best Western) and it was nice, yet small. The best thing about it is there is a very nice beach just a few steps away. Got a suite for 149.00 per night. I would next time, though rent a condo to be able to prepare meals.
We stayed at the Punahoa Beach Apts. in Kihei. It is a small condo unit about 50 feet from the ocean. All units are oceanfront. We like staying in condos because it makes it easy to fix and eat meals right at ';home';. We are on the SouthBeach Diet so it helps a lot. There are many veg. offerings at restaurants. Do a search on this forum and you will find many ideas.
I too, stayed at the Maui Oceanside Best Western. I doubt if I%26#39;d stay there again. It%26#39;s okay, but be careful where you park. It shares a parking lot with Sarrento%26#39;s restaurant, which has valet parking. They block off several spaces for the valets when the restaurant is open. I guess I parked too close to the valet section one night and one of the valets was kind enough to flatten one of the tires on my rental car. Of course this was the last night of our trip, so I had to change the tire before we left for the airport and we cut it close for making the flight. I spoke with the manager of the hotel and he told me that it wasn%26#39;t the first time and they have had continuing problems with the valets. So be careful. Also, it may be more expensive, but I definitely prefer to rent a condo than staying in a hotel on Maui.
We rented a condo and loved it. It had a great kitchen, so we could cook our own meals.
Consider a condo in Kihei; many available. At that time rates may be as good as a hotel. We own at the Maui Schooner. There are many developments like this that are smaller but very nice.
