I cannot decide on a condo to stay in for the last 4 days of my honeymoon! I need something thats under 150, on the ocean, and i%26#39;m would like the quiet and serenity of not being in Waikiki (I know its a lovely place, I would just like to stay elsewhere). I%26#39;m tossing it up between Pats at Punaluu, Gigi%26#39;s Paradise, and this one... http://www.vrbo.com/38146.
Should I be staying on the windward side of Oahu in June? Is it always windy? what about rainy? This is not like me but i%26#39;m actually avoiding the topic because this is too much of a decision for me. What would help most are peoples opinions about places (i%26#39;m very persuadable) if there are any. I booked everything else for the trip so far, I just need to get this out of the way! Thanks!
Thats it, I have to make a decision!
It could rain where ever you stay in Hawaii. You are worried about something you can%26#39;t predict or control. It rains in Waialua and it rains in Punaluu. I doesn%26#39;t tend to rain nonstop for days in June though. Some places are windier than others. The shores of both areas you have chosen can be windy. Tradewinds are a good thing. When they stop blowing it can get uncomfortably hot and humid.
Is the one in Waialua a converted garage? Maybe it%26#39;s a fine place but it%26#39;s hard to tell with the few pictures provided? Have you asked for more photos from all that you are interested in renting? Ask for a photo of the beach in front of each place, and of the bedroom, the bathroom, living room area, you know places that matter to your comfort. Honestly, I think you will probably be happy where ever you choose if only because it is your honeymoon, so enjoy.
Thats it, I have to make a decision!
You seem overly concerned about the weather on the Windward side. Its noy ';windy'; there. The Tradewinds provide a very comfortable breeze. You won%26#39;t need air conditioning to sleep comfortably at night. Rain on Oahu, no matter where you are, typically lasts for 5 - 10 minutes at a shot. You could get 2-4 shots a day though. No big deal. Plenty of beautiful rainbows after each one!

While I cannot comment on the Gigi%26#39;s or vrbo offerings specifically, I question whether Pat%26#39;s at Punaluu is the appropriate answer to your expressed desires.
Although it has been more than 20 years since I lived across the street from Pat%26#39;s (even surviving Hurricane Iwa), I stopped in to the neighborhood to visit friends just a couple months ago and checked out the old haunts. While I would still recommend Pat%26#39;s to a certain type of visitor, I%26#39;m not sure you best fit that profile, and alternative lodging might prove to be better suited.
Although it has significant ';charm'; of a certain type and is on the shoreline of a specatularly beautiful area (it%26#39;s not really meaningful ';beachfront';), Pat%26#39;s was kind of grungy a quarter century ago, and still is.
Sure, some of the units have been lovingly cared for and renovated, and if you are lucky enough to get one, it would be a good value in some respects. But many/most will probably prove to be a disappointment unless you are a forgiving traveler of the adventurous type.
Further, You can%26#39;t really say the town rolls up the sidewalk after dark....because there isn%26#39;t even a town there. It is a very rural area with basically ';zero'; support for tourism in the area. There are one or two craft/curio places, a few local style restaurants and an recently expanded grocery store in nearby Hauula...but that is it. About four miles north is Laie, the main town in the Koolauloa District, with the PCC, Morman temple, BYUH, McDonalds and shopping center. But it also closes up early, and being the last true LDS-owned town, you can%26#39;t get a beer or find a dance hall to save your life.
Your activities will be limited...but maybe that%26#39;s what honeymooners want.
Baically, Pat%26#39;s is an older project in a small residential enclave, very low-key, amidst a lovely countryside. There are a couple of world class beaches nearby, ';pounders'; a famous body surfing break, and the Polynesian Cultural Center. Unfortunately, the trail to Sacred Falls is now closed (a most spectacular asset for the area), but we have snuck in a couple times anyway.
Pat%26#39;s will provide a unique experience...but, in order to enjoy it, you must first be absolutely certain this type of experience is what you are seeking.
We just spent 2 weeks in a condominium at Pats. We loved it. The people in the neighborhood were very kind and helpful.
Snorkeling in the reef protected beach was awesome. We stayed in vrbo.com 3010 and it was perfect for us. It was a very homey atmosphere and we had everything we needed at hand. I would say it was more of a breeze then windy and although we had some rain it was for very short periods of time.
Pat%26#39;s is an older building however, and if you want a 5 star accommodation then this would not be the place for you.
If your looking for the true spirit of aloha, beautiful beaches, very few tourists, then I would not stay anywhere else! We are already planning our next stay and will be staying for a month in what we found was paradise.
We%26#39;re leaving 12/28 and staying in vrbo 35796 for 5 nights, then moving to another property with the same owner. The owner%26#39;s best advice? Read the ';comments';, if the rental listing has them available. I did so and also contacted some of the previous renters for their feedback about the property and owners.
Thank you so much for your help! The one in Laie, looking at the wonderful reviews it gets looks spectacular! Its too bad their website doesn%26#39;t work, do they have another? Heres the VRBO listing...

Thanks!
Just had out five days in the beach studio and it was everything as pictured and then some more! Lots of little things that made the stay wonderful along with a very comfortable bed.
Absolutely wonderful location to explore North Shore and Windward Side. We had a bit of rain, but it IS winter; June should be great.
The beach in front of the unit is GREAT! You should be able to snorkel right there (owners have gear) and you can take nice looong beach walks. Leave the slider open at night and listen to the waves beneath you...
For lunch or dinner... drive up the road a piece and eat at the shrimp trucks - we loved Giovanni%26#39;s.
Another place that looked interesting on the North Shore were the Ke Iki Beach Bungalows. Check %26#39;em out!

I%26#39;m so excited that you wrote me back after your trip, i%26#39;m glad you had a great time! do you have any pictures of the property from your trip? I%26#39;m having a hard time communicating with the owner and getting pictures. Also, if you wouldn%26#39;t mind sharing more information with me about the place, how far of a walk is it to the beach? I doesn%26#39;t look like its that far in the vrbo pictures, just looks down hill. Thanks so much!!!
As soon as I get home, I%26#39;ll upload the pics and post them to my flickr.com account (screen name is also Church of One).
I don%26#39;t know how many more pics of the studio we can show you. The website does a great job. It does feel very private there; you can%26#39;t really see the neighboring houses due to the elevation and vegetation, although you can see houses along the bay.
The property is on Laie Point, which is a big old chunk of coral reef jutting out into the bay. The house is on a dead end closest to where the reef joins the beach. So all you need to do is walk down the steps on the property to the gate and you%26#39;re right at the very start of the northward beach. You can talk a walk all the way out to the point you see in the beach photo (and beyond!). You can also walk out to the tip of Laie Point and watch the sunrise, or look back at the mountains and town lights.
We really enjoyed just being able to kick back and relax there. It is about an hour%26#39;s drive from HNL and is very peaceful and laid-back. And did I mention the wonderful beaches??
