4x4 beaches-Hawaiidan please comment?

Gonna be back in Kona in a week. I enjoy renting a jeep there %26amp; found 1 4x4 beach N. of Kona

Can you give me some ideas, guidance on other 4x4 beaches that I can find/access via jeep. I have that Revealed book but find it hard to find many of the beaches. Thanks.

hey jjmmd2003.

We were there in July 2005, and we hoped to do some 4X4%26#39;ing to some beaches too - but did not have too much luck.

We followed the Big Island Revealed Book - but some of the info was out-of-date. For example, page 159 (3rd Edition) talks about an unpaved road just north of mile marker 88 (off Highway 19). When we turned off here - there were bug boulders blocking the road down to the beach. I am not sure if it is still blocked off - but that sounded like a good little drive down to the water.

I wish I was more help on this subject. Good luck finding some off-the-beaten-path beaches in this area.

4x4 roads are not marked and change a lot the Big Island book is good but does suggest some not good ideas of tresspass on prvate land.

Unless you pay the money to Harper you will not legaly be able to drive anyother rental 4x4 that I know of off a paved road, to mauna kea or southpoint it is in the contract.. yes really ask the agency...

Do people do this....yes, do they have problems...90% never do......10% get burned for repairs, etc that can equal or exceed the cost of the car..... and you will be the iisurance agent.....because all your polices will be void......because you violated a contract you freely entred into.... It is a crap shoot

it is a waste of vacation money to rent a stay on the paved road 4x4.
