Hi everybody

Does everything close in the early evening hours?
Not all places close early, but I think Hawaii is a bit different than the mainland. It seems everyone gets up earlier to enjoy the beautiful beaches and sunshine on Maui. Around 4pm everyone seems to get ready to go and see hula and watch the sun set, then it%26#39;s dinner time. I live in New England and we go out around 9 or 10pm. In Maui it%26#39;s so relaxing after dinner, I tend to go to sleep a little earlier than I nomally do. This way I can get up earlier and start another great day! I know because of the time difference when I first get there I wake up very early like 5AM. Many restaurants close around 9PM which is really different for many people. Maybe that is why Hawaii is so popular, because it is so different. That said, I think you can find quite a few places that will feed and entertain you well into the late night, look around Lahaina.

We agree about the time change. Every tourist type from the east coast is awake very early. Perfect for going for a walk on the beach or watching the sunrise or both. If you are on vacation go with the flow.
Thanks for responding, I was hoping everything would stay open late b/c going home early while being on vacation is not my idea of a great time, b/c it seems I never have enough time in the day to do everything I want but I am sure I can handle changing my sleeping habits to getting up early and doing as much as possible early in the day, Does anyone know what time the sunsets?

Just 3 more days to go and I cant wait!
This time of year, I believe the sun sets around 6 p.m.
Vainselane; The sun does set around 6 as someone said BUT get down to Whalers Village Shopping Centre and get into Leilani%26#39;s Bar(lower section) or the Rusty Harpoon about 5:30 for a drink %26amp; puu-puus (snacks) to watch the sun set. There are usually catamarans %26amp; tour boats going back %26amp; forth and you can get unfogettable pics with the boats in the foreground which make great remembrances when you get home. Also, do as I did %26amp; jump the little wall at Leilani%26#39;s %26amp; take a couple of pics of whoever your with smiling(grimacing) into the sun. Leilani%26#39;s is preferable as you are down a little bit lower %26amp; makes for better pics I think. Bob!
Clubs and bars stay open to 2, but many of the hotel bars close earlier. Most restaurants serve until 9 or 10. There are some that stay open later, like Lahaina Coolers in Lahaina or Horhitos in Kihei. There is a new game center in Kihei that opened last week called Versus and I have heard they are open until the wee hours, after the bars close. One of my girls%26#39; boyfriend has been raving about the place and bragging that they are open really late.
I travel a lot and I find the hours of most places here comparable to other places across the U.S., except maybe for New York City where you can find sushi at 3 am, if you know where to look.
