1. We are staying at the Sheraton Maui? Anything I should know; the good, the bad and the ugly?
2. Since this is our 1st and possibly last Maui experience which is the best Luau in your opinion
3. What is your favorite place to watch the whales?
4. Hike, bike or drive down from the sunrise at Haleakala (we are in our early 40%26#39;s)
Any answers would be GREATLY appreciated! Happy New Year!
More specific info
1. Have not stayed there - look at the hotel section of this forum. Great location - near Whalers village and Black Rock.
2. We really liked the Marriott Luau. Others have liked the Feast at Lele in Lahaina.
3. We could not see whales from the shore. You might get lucky at some point. Best way is by boat. Take a smaller pontoon boat as they get closer - Maui adventurer crusies or Captain Steve%26#39;s
4. Definitely bike down - hiking will take a long time and driving is not too much fun with the hair pin turns - we have biked down twice now and loved it.
Hope it helps.

2. Trust me, you%26#39;ll be back. %26lt;G%26gt;
I%26#39;d recommend the Old Lahaina Luau as less touristy than most. Food and drinks are on par with any other I%26#39;ve been to.
Be aware that you%26#39;ll have to be up around 2:00 a.m. to make it up Haleakala for sunrise. Dress WARM!!!
1.Stayed at the Sheraton in April %26#39;04. Absolutely loved it. We were upgraded to a partial ocean view so we had a view looking north to Honokawai and a view of the golf course and mountains. We were able to watch the sunrise every morning from our balcony. All the staff was great especially Tristan, the bartender in the Reef Longe. The breakfast buffet was not worth the price. We stopped at Safeway to buy breakfast items and kept them in the room fridge. We will definitely be going back. If you haven%26#39;t already gotten a Starwood card get one. They sent us a great package deal for the Westin so we are staying there this year then back to the Sheraton.
2. Old Lahaina Luau.
3. I assume you mean where to whale watch from shore. We saw a lot just by stopping at the scenic overlook near MacGregor Point. Also saw a pod right from the shore at Big Beach.
Have a great time. We thought we would only go once but are now getting ready for our third trip.
The Sheraton is fantastic...we stayed in a moutain view room and it was still great. The beach in front of the Sheraton is the best in Kaananapali. Also, for whale watching we saw whales right in front of the Sheraton a few years ago!!!
We paid a lot of money for a whale watching tour and dinner ... and saw one animal.
Then we stopped for lunch at some little restaurant over on Maui bay, and saw one breach every 5 minutes.
Don%26#39;t waste your money. Just find a good spot near the bay and relax. You%26#39;ll have whales coming out your blowhole.
DRIVE DOWN Haleakala.
It%26#39;s pretty. But you have to go in groups. I hate groups. Leave me alone.
Another absolutely gorgeous drive is the road to Hana. We did it twice even though it%26#39;s a two hour drive. We couldn%26#39;t find the 7 Pools the first time so we went back. The first time you get so distracted with the beauty along the way, it could end up being a 5 hour excursion.
Rent a convertible.
2. OLD LAHAINA LUAU
3. PACIFIC WHALE FOUNDATION - I saw over 20 animals with multiple breaches and activity.
4. DRIVE
Have never stayed at the Sheraton but it is a busy, tourist area, lots of hotels etc. Definitely the Old Lahaina Luau. Beware of the drinks. McGregor Point or anywhere along that road. Please pull off if you want to watch for awhile. I would drive down Haleakala unless you are in great shape and want to use a lot of time.
Drive instead of bike,we just returned from maui, used Maui Hike or Hike Maui,we are not in great shape but loved the 3 hour hike to the waterfall experience, very goodd guides also
