Depends on the time of day, and which way you go (clock-wise or counter-clockwise). But plan on about 3 hours. It%26#39;s a very slow drive.

We are driving from Kaanapoli to Hana, staying overnight in Hana, then driving back to Kaanapoli (to check out of our hotela and pick up our luggage from that hotel) and then to the airport to fly home. I guess then we%26#39;d be driving either way. Which way is best to get back?

So, why don%26#39;t you check out of your hotel in Ka%26#39;anapali the day before?????

Anyways, when you leave you will want to go counter-clockwise, and you will want to leave early (by 7 or 8 am)....this will give you plenty of time to drive slow and take in the beautiful scenery, and make stops. Take food %26amp; water with you, as there is no place to stop once you get on the road. When you return, you can continue around in the counter-clockwise direction (although there is a section of road that you are not allowed to take rental cars on, but most people do). This is a completely different terrain than what you will see on the first half of the drive. You can probaly do a search on the search bar above for ';Road to Hana'; and get a lot of insight on which way to go. If you decide to head back the way you came, just remember to be respectful and let cars pass, as the locals are trying to commute to work.

So, if you are trying to get back in time for check out, you should be sure to leave yourself extra time....just in case! Again, probably by 7 or 8 am).

We could check out I guess the night before however I didn%26#39;t want to have to take the suitcases with us. I wanted to just bring along a small overnight bag only. But I guess that would work too. We will drive the road clockwise on the way there so we should see most of the stuff that day, right? Or is there more past Hana?

Yeah, most of the ';good'; stuff is on the first part of the drive (counter-clockwise)....plus, this way, the mountain side is to your right, and there is a lane of cars between you and the steep cliffs to the left!!! :)

ps...glad we went all the way around, but if I did it again, I would come back the way we came. Once is enough.
