reosrt quest islander on the beach

A party of 8 of us, including 5 older teens are considering a 1 week stay at the Islander on the Beach.

Please tell me if the beach is level and sandy for running and suitable for snorkeling and swimming. We have fairly strong swimmers.

Are the rooms air conditioned with ';quieter'; units and would you stay again???

Thanks very much,

Jan

All of the units at the Islander on the Beach have been recently fully renovated as the property was converted from an integrated (one owner) hotel into separately-owned condotel units....don%26#39;t worry, a guest would not know the difference.

As a result, they are in beautiful condition. I was given a tour of several in late November and they look like new (about $35,000 per unit was spent on the refurbishment). There are some great photos on their website islanderonthebeach.com

And, they all have A/C.

The beach in front is level and hard-packed sand with a scrubby lawn and scattered ironwoods for the most part; very suitable for walking/running. Coconut Plantation is a great community to jog around in.

Unfortunately the tidal areas are marked by rock ledges/reefs at and just below the wash line; with mixed rock, coral and sand in the relatively shallow near-shore areas. As a result, these characteristics, coupled with the generally windy conditions, makes the beachfront of secondary quality for recreation and sunbathing compared to other beaches on the island.

However, if your teens are strong swimmers and experienced in dealing with moderate to harsher ocean conditions, they will find the waters excellent for exploring, and sufficient coral to make snorkeling interesting (the AM is the best time).

Good to great windsurfing is generally available around Waipouli, and fair to good surfing.

I have stayed at the hotel and appraised it several times in the past. You will have an enjoyable experience; with a solid, ';fresh';, low-density, nicely landscaped facility, that is next to some good shopping and centrally located on the island.

I generally don%26#39;t consider the beach there to be very swimmable with all the rocks. Some of the units are very close to the ocean and have great views though.

Keep in mind, these are converted hotel rooms and as such are very small - about 370 square feet. They have a queen bed and a full-sized pull out sofa.

With eight people, I hope you are getting at least 2 units! I don%26#39;t remember if they have any larger or adjoining units with a lockout door.....

IMHO, the rooms are quite cramped. Two people who get along well would be fine in there for a week. The idea of multiple older teens in one of those rooms is frightening. %26lt;G%26gt; Yes, they did a nice job of renovating, but...

For 8 people you might be able to find a deal at Kaua%26#39;i Coast Resort next door. Same beach, and you%26#39;d have a common room and full kitchen/dining area in a 2BR.
