Helicopter Tours

Would like to do one of the tours, but I am slightly ';afraid';. Would like comments as to your experiences. I hate roller coasters and ferris wheels....anybody get motion sickness? My husband does not want to go, but I have heard that they are wonderful. Was it scary swooping around-bumpy or smooth?

Helicopter Tours

I get motion sickness on the Napali Coast cruises but not on Interisland Helicopter flights. If you have doubts take Bonine starting a day before your flight. I was thrilled...not scared. A wonderful experience and not like riding a rollercoaster/ferris wheel...neither swooping remarkably and scarcely bumpy. You will long remember the beauty of it all...the flight over Kauai is spectacular.

Aim for an early a.m. flight for the chance of fewer low-hanging clouds and better views.

Helicopter Tours

My wife and I consider our helicopter tour the highlight of our two weeks in Hawaii last year. We both love roller coasters too, but the flight was nothing like that at all. Very smooth ride from beginning to end, although I%26#39;m sure the weather conditions can have an effect on any given day. My wife doesn%26#39;t like watching the IMAX movies where the camera flies through the

canyons, etc., but she had no problems in the helicopter. You just don%26#39;t get the feel of motion that you think you would. The scenery is soooo incredible that you%26#39;ll just forget where you are and enjoy the moment.

I took a test ride at home before my first trip because I was worried about being scared. I don%26#39;t do rollercoasters. Turns out it was no problem, even with the doors off. DO IT!!! It%26#39;s like nothing you%26#39;ve ever seen before.

I do do roller coasters and just about anything else. As the others have said, the ride was very smooth, with only 1 minor incidence of turbulence, and the pilot warned us to expect it as we came out of the protection of a huge canyon area. It doesn%26#39;t even give you the sensation you sometimes get in an elevator. Unless you have a fear of heights it is most likely worth you taking the ride, as the view is priceless. It was my first heli trip, and I really wish I could have got right back on when we landed. As for the sensation of forward motion, I was un aware of it until I leaned out to take some photos facing the way we were travelling, only then did I get the sensation of forward movement. (we were moving at a ground speed of 110 MPH according to the pilot). Now that was in the no door Inter-island copter, so a closed cabin version would be like a car I guess.

Thanks for all your comments. Have to convince my husband now...

After a bumpy ride in the Grand Canynon a few years ago, I had to go on the helicopter trips in Kauai and Big Island on my own.

If you can%26#39;t convince your husband to come on with you, still go on your own. Some operators sell tapes of your actual trip, including shots of you, so you%26#39;ll be able to show him this afterwards (and also it%26#39;ll save you lots of $!).

p.s. I didn%26#39;t get any motion sickness, though a few others did. Overall the ride is very smooth. It was a little bumpy in places, but the pilots did pre-warn.

I hope you can get your husband to go with you but if not I agree with the other posts. What everyone said is so true. I will always remember the experience we had on our Interisland ride and hope to do it again when we return to Kauai in September. When I close my eyes and remember the things I saw, I still have my breath taken away.

I went on one on the Big Island, and it was AMAZING! The only thing that bothered me was the tightness of the headphones on my head. It was giving me kind of a headache and I took them off several times during the flight for a couple seconds. I don%26#39;t get motion sickness, am not afraid of heights and love rollercoasters, so I might not be the best person to ask, but I thought my little headache was well worth it. It was simply astounding!
