This is our 1st stay so which tower should we stay in? I%26#39;m a Diamond member and it%26#39;s only me, wife and teen-age daughter. Which tower has the largest rooms, modern bathrooms, and balcony. We probably prefer view and quiet. Insight would be helpful.
Hilton Waikoloa Village
If you are a diamond member, you can get upgraded to a suite...we like Ocean Tower...quieter, free breakfast and appetizers, good ocean views...you need to know that this property needs work, lots of wear and tare and short on maintenance...food/drinks are EXPENSIVE...rooms are good...maybe tight for 3...push for suite...spa is good not great and is included with Diamond...valet parking is bad-$12.00/day...I think all rooms are the same size except for suites...you MUST buy, ';Hawaii, The Big Island Revealed'; (Doughty/Friedman)...they cover every square inch of the island...good luck.
Hilton Waikoloa Village
check with pauls opinion....
You have the Kings shopping center about a mile down the road andit has a collection of good food and economic eats.
Plan on Imari, and Kamulea Provision co. at the Hilton. At Kings it is Roys.. which i think is over priced and not that good, and Merrimans market cafe.
try to hit Bamboo 18 miles north in Hawi.. the best ambiance going and food to match for half the Waikoloa prices And Merrimans in Waimea the finest restraunt on the island ( Zagat, Fromers,Fodor,NY times)
Big Island revealed is good for beaches and roads but is not what it should be for food and lodging and activities....
hawaiidan,
I%26#39;ll be bringing my family of four to the big island later this year. Do you have a recommendation for a good read for choosing the best accomodations?
dutch
For a family.....I would stay at Waikoloa Beach in a condo, get a hilton water park pass for the days you want and save parking food and room costs..... you can get a nice condo for 4 for 225.....hotels will cost you about 350 a day with parking tax and about 250 a day meals.......
n kona The outtrigger OR SHERATON FOR HOTELS
Thats the best deal this side of puerto suello hill and Marinwood...
Thanks for the response hawaiidan. You%26#39;re loaded with great information and it%26#39;s greatly appreciated. It seems you even know about my neck of the woods... I like your advice on the condo idea. Here is what we%26#39;re trying to decide between:
Hilton
Marriott
Outrigger Fairway Villas
ResortQuest Shores
ResortQuest Colony Villas
Sheraton
Our young daughters (4 and 10) really like the hotel resort idea with pools and slides. My wife and I like the condo idea with the ability to eat some meals in addition to the having an extra room or two available during our week stay. All of us would like to have beach access at the hotel if possible. Any additional guidance you could provide would be tremendously helpful.
One more thing, are there any books you would recommend reading to help us have a great time in paradise?
