Keeping my girls busy ( age 9 and 12 )

Any ideas on what I can do to keep my kids happy on a trip to Ohau this March. Going for 12 days. Thanks

What kinds of things do they like?

Swimming, snorkeling, surfing lessons, browsing the International Market, hanging out on Waikiki and ogling the beach boys (uhhhh, maybe you don%26#39;t want them doing that), boat trips Halona Blowhole, Chinatown, zoo, aquarium, Dole Plantation maze (and Dole Whip!), luau (Polynesian Cultural Center, maybe), climbing Diamond Head...

Thanks PZP. That is something to think about.

We have gone to Disney for the last 3 years and they like to keep busy. I have been telling them for months now that Hawaii is not Disney and not to expect that, but it would be nice for a day or two to to go a asmusemnt park or something. Thanks for the reply.

I think there%26#39;s a water park outside Honolulu, but it seems a shame to spend limited Hawai%26#39;i time there. JMHO.

Try Sea Life Park, they can see the worlds whole Wholphin...watch dolphin shows, enjoy the sea lions and see the penguins, too. I enjoyed it and i%26#39;m well into being an adult. Also, they would probably enjoy hanauma Bay Snorkeling, if you take a tour there is transportation from the IMAX theater to they bay. If they like water parks Hawaiian Water Adventure Park can be fun. And if they have any interest in surfing there are a variety of surf schools, I would recommend getting a value pass like the Go Hawaii Card or Entertainment guide. Go Hawaii Card comes with a guide book so they can browse through and choose what they want to do for the day, I recommend it because I know they offer kids prices for kids under 12, so check that out. And if they are itching to get out of the Hawaiian fun take them to Dave and Busters--located in the Victorian Ward Center. Tons of videogames for them to enjoy

Aloha,

We just got back from Oahu....

My daughter is 9...she was happy swimming in the pool or playing in the sand most of the times with all the kids she met....she liked going on the catamaran rides...we went on the submarine tour this time...was great! Definetely rent a car one day and go to the swap meet, Dole Plantation for a dole whip, and drive up to North Shore...great place to eat up there is Pizza Bob%26#39;s! Get them floaties for the pool/ocean...just relax....and have fun....:)

Amie back in cold CA....darn it!!!

We went to Oahu when our girls were 8 %26amp; 11 and again when they were 9 %26amp; 12. They%26#39;ve also been to Disneyland 3 times. Like you say, there is a difference, but I bet your two will like the laid back holiday of the Islands.

Our two were never bored in Hawaii. You%26#39;d be amazed at how long they can stay at the beach. They were always in the water way longer than my husband and I. We loved going swimming in the evening when it was starting to get dark and there were way less people around. We usually had to drag them out because we could barely see anymore. As an alternative they also went to the hotel swimming pool and that also kept them busy.

You might also consider trying snorkelling (especially if you haven%26#39;t done so before). We all loved that - seeing fish that we%26#39;d never seen before - and lots of them.

You could also try a luau. Polynesian Cultural Centre was good because it showed so many different Polynesian Island traditions. Paradise Cove was good because it had lots of activities that the girls could do (making leis, bracelets; playing games).

One place that you might consider is the Bishop%26#39;s Museum in Honolulu. We weren%26#39;t sure if our girls would like it, being a museum and all, but we went there when they were 8 %26amp; 11 and they both said they liked it. It gives the history of Polynesia and there is small planetarium too, where they talk about how the Polynesians learned to navigate with the stars.

I%26#39;m sure you will all enjoy your Hawaiian holiday. It can be quite easy to plan your activities once you get there, especially if you are there for at least a week and are flexible as to which days you want to do something. That way you can wait and see when you get there as to what you think your girls will like to do the best.

Have a great trip!

Thanks all. Sounds like we are all on the same track. If you think CA is cold you should be in Toronto this time of year.

Regards
