Hey, I have found five places that have vacancy for our stay in Dec. Anyone know anything about any of them? Any advice would be great. There is the Royal Kona Inn, Ocean front. The reviews aren%26#39;t very good on that place. Old and moldy. Then for B%26amp;B%26#39;s, there is Nancy%26#39;s Hideaway. Good reviews but no ocean view, which I would like. Da Third House, which is in Capt Cook, which is fine with med. Has great views, but can%26#39;t find any reviews on it. For Condo%26#39;s there is Casa de Emdeko. It looks pretty nice, but Hawaiindan said it is real old and outdated. The pictures the owner sent didn%26#39;t ook too bad, but it is a ground floor unit, 5th from ocean. Is there views or not. And then there is the Alii Villa with a pool view and the Mauna Loa Village. Know nothing about that place, ie: ocean view or cleanliness or whatever.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I need to make a decision today before everything I like is gone. Have lost three other places I liked because I waited to think about it a few days.
Thanks so much in advance,
Colorado

Hey swaylo,
The Mauna Loa Village is a sharp bet, we are staying at the Mauna Loa Village (well actually the Shell resort at Mauna Loa Village) for the second time in September. We stayed there two Decembers ago and had a great time. Some of the units face the oceans some don,t but there are so many pools really close to the untis you feel like you have your own pool and hot tub. The units are large and in rather good shape, very nice.

Thanks for your input. I have it eliminated down to Casa de E or Da Third House. It has good views, and is a nontraditional B%26amp;B, not much interaction with host, separate entrance and all, but it is still in the bottom of someone%26#39;s house and I wonder if we can come in late and all. The Casa de E is a bottom floor unit 5 back from ocean. Hope you can see the ocean from the lanai. I wondered if there was a bug problem on the bottom floor. I sure wish it was a top floor unit. I like them better. Oh well. At this point I can%26#39;t be too picky. The Muana Loa Village looks good, too.
Captain Cook is funky? I thought it may be nice to stay there in the coffee fields. The motel there looked bad, tho.
Thanks for your input.

Visit Capt Cook before you stay...........
Id stay anywhere in kona rather that there......really
Did you find anything out about Da Third House? We are thinking about staying there and need to make reservations soon. Any insight would be helpful.
When you say Captian Cook is funky, are you talking about the whole town, or one motel/condo in particular?
I keep thinking of questions...We%26#39;re also thinking about staying at the Ohana House near the South Point I guess. Does anybody out there know anything about this place? thanks
Th furthur south you go from Kona and keauhou, the more funky everything gets...
South point is so far removed from any resorts and and activitiies that iit iis a 50 mile driive one way to get to the Restraunts.
In this area folks generate their own power, and have to haul in water for their use.....
This area is very remote, is that what you want no hotels, no motels ( we dont have them here), then go for it....it is in a desert region with constant winds..... thte terrain iis all lava that is rather young and you wont find a lot growing.
Ocean View estates has a small store and gas.
We just returned from our trip to Hawaii and had a great time. We went fishing with Guy Terwilliger on the Ho%26#39;okele and had an awesone time. Caught two huge yellowfin. His crew mate, Chris is great, also. We were the only boat to catch that day. Guy is real well respected in the area. You could tell by how people treated him at the docks and all. Stayed at Casa d Emedko and loved it also. As for Da Third House, we went by it and the area looked fun to me. It is on a hillside with all of the other B%26amp;B%26#39;s, about 1/2 hour to 45 mins from Kona. I wouldn%26#39;t have been unsatisfied had we stayed in that area, but sure did like Kona. The volcano National Park was a bit of a disappointment. We both thought it would be more than it was. We hiked back to see the lava flow at night, and it is quite a hike and you can%26#39;t get very close unless you plan on spending all day hiking, and then you%26#39;d have a heck of a time getting out at night. It is real dark and hard walking, but we had flashlights. No way out without them. The other Islands were great, also. More Later,
