Does anyone have a van tour of the Big Island they would recommend or is it a better idea to rent a car and do it on your own? Polynesian Adventure Tours offers a van tour that goes through Kailua Town, Kealakekua Bay, Volcanoes National Park, Fern Tree Jungle, Orchid %26amp; Anthurium Nursery, drive through Hilo Town, a Macadamia Nut Factory, the Hamakua Coast, Parker Ranch Lands and the Waimea district and makes a few stops at some of the places. Is it worth it?

There are of course upsides and downsides to touring either way.
For a van tour, if you want to stay at some stop a bit longer you will not be able too. You may also not go everywhere you want or go places you do not want to go to.
The upside, they are usually very knowledgeable and you will probably learn more going on a guided tour.
Tour of Big Island
We did the Polynesian Adventure Tour the first time on the BI many years ago.
We were part of a three Island tour at the time so didn%26#39;t have a rental car. Though a little rushed we enjoyed it, %26#39;got a good idea of what was there. In subsequent visits we have gone on our own, and have rented a car. Depending on where you will be staying and how long you will be there, you will need a car anyway. It%26#39;s not difficult finding stuff if you get ';the book';.
also Big island Adventure Tour... not a van but a coach.... the best Most take about 11 to 12 hours including stops. it is a 270 mile drive.....
suggest a circle island air tour as an option soo you can see what you want to return to.....
